Tales of a reluctant minister

Dear K-State Intervarsity Alum

My Name Is Ryan Gaffney, and I wanted to write you to begin a conversation about the next page in the history of your Intervarsity Chapter

I’ve recently been hired to replace Wade Weber as the Campus Staff Minister for Kansas State, and am in the process of developing a support team for the ministry I’m taking on there.

To get started I need to raise a total annual budget of about $50,000 more than half of which has already been raised thanks in part to the generous gifts of alumni like you. As I raise the other half, I’m asking for your help. I need people to pray for me as I attempt to make an eternal difference in the lives of these students, and I need people to join me in greater numbers and greater quantities to become financially involved in what God is doing.

I have no doubts that God has provided and will continue to provide everything this ministry needs to function, and as I do, it’s important to me not to neglect the involvement of the Alumni who set the foundation for the chapter I’m stepping into. Not only because you deserve that respect, but because I need the advice.

I myself was never a student at Kansas State, or involved with Intervarsity. I grew up in southern California and attended Concordia University Irvine (a Christian school) Intervarsity found me after graduation, as a Pastor to Youth and Young Adults, and invited me to be a part of this.

I love what I’ve seen of IV and K-State, but I have some serious lost time to make up for, so I want to ask you to reminisce with me. To tell me about your experiences in the chapter, the good and the bad, and help me learn from history to create a stronger future

In the next week or so I’ll be trying to contact you in hopes of scheduling some time to talk more about this ministry. But I’m working off an inherited spreadsheet that records your contact information, so If you don’t hear from me It’s probably because the system no longer has your correct contact. Please Please, give me a call or send me an e-mail at the address below if you don’t hear from me. I’m looking forward to speaking with you.

In Christ,

Ryan Gaffney
